Next summer’s Vans Warped Tour will be the last, founder Kevin Lyman has revealed.
Citing a triple-threat of ‘an evolving summer festival industry, a shrinking pool of bands, and declining ticket sales’, Lyman has also pointed to his own hectic career as a reason for stopping in 2018 – speaking to Billboard, he explained:
“Before Warped I was on three years of Lollapalooza, so 26 straight summers out on the road. Not that I’m completely going anywhere, but traveling around the country with a tour this size in the landscape that we’re in is…to be honest, I’m just tired.”
Live4ever had the pleasure of covering the Warped Tour in 2012, ’13 and ’14, capturing live shots and interviewing Twin Atlantic in the midst of their first experience with the event.
“For every summer since 1994, countless heavy duty trucks have rattled up and down the sunburnt United States highways for weeks on end, briefly stopping off in venues and parking lots across the land when stages are unfolded as if by magic to unveil scores of guitar wielding groups from across the globe,” we wrote at the time.
