You’ll be surprised to hear Morrissey has once again batted off any suggestion that The Smiths could reunite in the future, saying he ‘doesn’t know a single person’ who wants it.
Certainly Morrissey and his former bandmate Johnny Marr are not interested, but that didn’t stop Billboard asking the singer for his thoughts on the subject for a trillionth time, leading to the response:
“I don’t know a single person who wants a Smiths reunion! “But, no, there aren’t any bands I like to see again because your memory of them is how they were in their prime or at their best or at their most desperate, and you look to them to be someone that they no longer are.”
Further on, Morrissey looked back on a 2013 which saw him cancel numerous live commitments due to a variety of illnesses, the most serious of those being a double pneumonia diagnosis.
“It was a bad year,” he admitted. “I was in hospitals so frequently that the doctors were sick to death of me, and there’s nothing more ageing than lying in a hospital bed, trying to recover from hospital food.”
All being well Morrissey will be back in the US later this year for a tour with Sirs Tom Jones and Cliff Richard in tow for shows in Brooklyn and Los Angeles.
