Morrissey calls lack of label interest ‘a sad sign of the times’

The modern music industry has again been criticised by Morrissey after a performance at Madison Square Garden in New York which he conversely described as ‘fantastic’.

The singer is on the search for a new record label since unceremoniously leaving Harvest just a short time after releasing his 2014 album ‘World Peace Is None Of Your Business‘, citing a lack of promotion as one of his chief frustrations.

Now, he’s been on fansite True To You to reveal there was ‘zero label interest’ at his New York show – ‘a sad sign of the times’ according to the former Smiths man.

Morrissey gave a more detailed update on his search for a new home to the Spanish newspaper El Pais back in April, though the message was pretty much the same.

“I recently contacted some labels and all have rejected me,” he said. “Pop music lives in the era of marketing which just leads to people with very low levels of competition, it is much easier to get rid of them once six months of fame have evaporated.”
