Another week, another round of Smiths reunion rumours.
And next up with the whispers is celebrity gossip site Holy Moly, which is claiming to have heard from ‘several credible sources’ that the hugely influential British group will reunite next year with a series of gigs, including Glastonbury, already booked.
The site is less sure on the make-up of the possible reformation however – suggesting drummer Mike Joyce, who became entangled in a messy legal battle with his former bandmates back in the Nineties, may not take part.
After The Stone Roses confirmed their own unlikely return last year, The Smiths remain one of the last big-name acts yet to join the current trend for high profile reunions, with the constant rumours surrounding the band – reports which are almost always immediately shot down by Johnny Marr – being a clear sign of the desire amongst many fans to a see a return for the group which split at the height of its powers back in 1987.
