The Glastonbury Festival will move north to the Midlands ‘every fifth year or so’ to help Michael Eavis‘ farmland recover from the onslaught of over 100,000 punters, BBC News is reporting.
The future of Glastonbury has been up for debate again this year, what with a potential move to Longleat falling through, the ‘fallow’ year in 2018 and the possibility of an entirely separate event that year all making the headlines.
Now, Eavis has been discussing the sustainability of Britain’s biggest music festival, and has confirmed more regular breaks will be needed in the future.
“I am arranging one year off, say every fifth year or so, to try and move to a site that’s more suitable,” he said. “But it would be a huge loss for Somerset if it went there for ever. I’ve found a site up towards the Midlands. We’ve got a wonderful product and we can do it almost anywhere.”
