The principal members of Palma Violets sans Chilli Jesson have formed a new band called Gently Tender with The Big Moon‘s Celia Archer.

Sam Fryer, Pete Mayhew and Will Doyle have re-emerged three years on from Palma Violets’ quiet retreat in the wake of their second studio album Danger In The Club, and are joined in the group by guitarist Adam Brown.

The first track shared, 2 Chords Good, recounts Fryer’s inner turmoil sparked by a conversation with a friend in 2016. “The song is essentially me replaying that moment in my mind, and almost kicking myself about my average and weak response (‘Probably yeah’) to her question, ‘Are you going to put some more chords on your new album?’,” he explains.

“The song is me talking to myself and making excuses like I was feeling ‘kinda stressed that day’. I had been suffering with anxiety at the time of the meeting, but as I gradually formulate what the answer should have been, I cultivate pictures in my mind of visions and scenes that move me; memories of ‘golden evenings’ and ‘sunlit canals’ and songs that I have loved.”

“Ultimately, ‘2 Chords Good’ is about celebrating the beauty and simplicity of things in an emotionally challenging time when one tends to overthink. As Sam rounds off, “As long as they are the right chords to get what you want to say out, its all fine.”
