Popstar Lily Allen has blasted the Brit Awards as worthless, saying the award ceremony is fixed with the winners decided by record label executives.

Talking about her experiences at the annual industry get-together in February, when she picked the award for Best Female Solo Artist, Allen said: “I got a Brit Award recently. And that was something four years ago that I would have died for. But when I finally got that award it meant absolutely nothing to me. Because I now know that the Brit Awards is a TV show. Record company executives make deals with a TV channel and the producers about who wins what award in exchange for performance time. So it’s just become a non-award, like ‘Thank you for this'”.

The singer appears to have changed her mind since the ceremony itself, when she said the award was “the perfect way to say goodbye” after she revealed her plans to retire from music following the release of her second album ‘It’s Not Me, It’s You‘ in February last year.

Since announcing her break for music, Lily Allen has said she plans to launch her own record label and open a fashion rental shop.
