Kele Okereke Explains Solo Decision

_41992444_kele2_pa220Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke has been explaining his reasons for pursuing a solo career, saying some if his fellow bandmates’ desire to take time off persuaded him to release his own material.

In an interview with NME, Okereke explained his decision was made following a meeting in 2009: “In 2009, we had a conversation between the four of us about what we were going to be doing for the following year,” he said. “Basically, some of the others wanted to have some time off, and I was like, ‘Well, if we have time off I’m going to do my own thing really, for a year’. That’s pretty much how it came about. I’m 28 and I can have time off when I’m an old man!”

Okereke will release his debut solo album, ‘The Boxer‘, under the guise of ‘Kele’ on June 21st through Wichita/Polydor Records. ‘Tenderoni‘, the first single, will be released on June 14th. The LP was co-produced by electro DJ and producer Hudson Mohawke and XXXChange.
