Johnny Depp talks Oasis, Pogues recording sessions

pogueswideHollywood star Johnny Depp has been discussing his time recording with Oasis and more recently The Pogues, labelling the latter’s frontman Shane MacGowan as ‘one of the most important poets of the 20th century’.

Depp spent time in the studio with MacGowan whilst working on the soundtrack to his latest movie The Lone Ranger, and told BBC 6Music’s Matt Everitt:

“Shane MacGowan is unpredictable. He’s definitely not boring. He’s a magnificent man and species. He’s a special being. To me, one of the most important poets of the 20th century.”

During the chat, Depp also recalled his famous contribution to Oasis’ hedonistic third album ‘Be Here Now‘, when he laid down slide guitar on the track ‘Fade In-Out‘ with the band’s chief songwriter Noel Gallagher. “Noel and I recorded most of that stuff on an island in Mustique,” he said. “It wasn’t a bad way to record.”

The Lone Ranger is set to hit UK cinemas tomorrow (August 9th) after a poor showing in the US.
