Stone Roses guitarist John Squire has confirmed the band are working on a new album this year.
The reformed Manchester band outlined their intentions to record new material when announcing their comeback in October 2011, and since then various insiders and friends have shared small updates on the likely timescale and make-up of the new material.
However, speaking at the Manchester premiere of the Made Of Stone tour documentary, Squire became the first Stone Roses member to speak openly about the studio sessions which the band have undertaken during the course of 2013.
“We’re working on it,” he told BBC 6Music. “It’ll be ready in about five years. We’ve got a few new songs. I can’t really tell you much about it. We won’t be playing the songs live until we’ve recorded them. We’re working on it this year.”
Outdoor UK gigs in London and Glasgow are just around the corner for the Stone Roses, with shows at Finsbury Park (June 7th and 8th) and Glasgow Green (June 15th) coming up.
