Grandaddy would appear to be recording a new album, their first since 2006.

Jason Lytle posted up the news with little fanfare on Twitter earlier this week (the tweet is copied below), revealing the record is at the tracking stage.

Grandaddy are still, rightly, chiefly revered for their 2000 second studio album ‘The Sophtware Slump‘, an ambitious of-its-time concept looking at the perils of modern technology at the dawn of a new millennium, and now remembered as one of this century’s first classics.

Just Like The Fambly Cat‘ of 2006 was their farewell after splitting earlier that year, when the band told NME:

“It was inevitable. On one hand our stubbornness has paid off, but on the other hand refusing to buy into the way things are traditionally supposed to be done has made things worse for us.”

“The realistic part is it hasn’t proved to be a huge money-making venture for a lot of guys in the band.”

They returned though in 2012 to headline End Of The Road and for other more low-key appearances.
