Jarvis Cocker has announced his first JARV IS… album is to be released on May 1st.

Beyond The Pale comes almost a year after the project’s debut track Must I Evolve? was made available exclusively at live shows to reflect Cocker’s aim for JARV IS… to be ‘primarily a live experience’.

Also consisting of Serafina Steer, Emma Smith, Andrew McKinney, Jason Buckle and Adam Betts, the collective made its live bow at Sigur Ros’ Norður og Niður festival in Iceland in 2017, and went on to play other shows including Desert Daze in 2018; it was around this time that the idea to put the material they had been performing live on an album was mooted.

Those live recordings were subsequently worked on with overdubs and additional vocals at Narcissus Studios in London, with more post-production and mixing also taking place in the city. The result is, according to Cocker, not a live album but an ‘alive’ album.
