Jack White ‘started a fight with Patrick Carney of The Black Keys in New York’

Like an Eddie Hearn-promoted night of pay-per-view boxing, there’s no shortage of artificial rivalries littered throughout rock and roll history.

But the ongoing bad blood between The Black Keys and Jack White does appear to be genuine, and also appears to have reared its head in New York recently.

Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney has shared details of the latest installment on Twitter, alleging that White approached him in a NYC bar with the intention of starting a spot of fisticuffs.

“I’ve never met Jack White, until last night,” Carney’s series of Tweets read. “He came to a bar in NYC I go to a lot with a few friends and tried to fight me. I don’t fight and don’t get fighting but he was mad!”

“He is why I play music. The bully assholes who made me feel like nothing. Music was a private non competitive thing. Not the best drummer but a passionate one. But anyway Jack White. A 40 year old bully tried to fight the 35 year old nerd. It might get loud but it might also get really really sad and pathetic.”

“Jack White is basically Billy Corgan’s dumb ass zero t-shirt in human form.”

The rivalry became public a couple of years ago when White’s ex Karen Elson, as part of legal proceedings, submitted an email exchanged between the pair which described The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach as an ‘asshole’ who ‘pushes himself into my world’.
