Interpol have made a new song taken from the sessions for their fourth studio album available to download via their official website.

Lights‘ is the first new material to be released from the band, and according to a message sent out to members of their mailing list, is set to be the first of a clutch of new tracks to be released on download: “We’re stirring,” the band wrote. “We want to show you something. And make sure you come back soon. We will be posting important information and dates in the coming weeks.”

The group have been working on the follow-up to 2007’s ‘Our Love To Admire‘ in New York and London and frontman Paul Banks told BBC 6Music at the end of last year that the new record is set to have a more orchestral feel than their previous efforts: “There’s some really classical stuff going on,” he said. “Carlos has gone to total new levels of crazy sophisticated orchestration. What we’ve worked on is a real step forward and just very different and very relaxed in what we’re doing. It certainly doesn’t sound like anything we’ve ever done before, to me.”

The new album is due to be released before the end of the year.
