Hard Rock Calling announces final 2012 headliner

soundgardenSoundgarden will top the bill on the opening night of this year’s Hard Rock Calling event, completing a trio of headliners which also includes legendary songwriters Bruce Springsteen and Paul Simon.

Hard Rock Calling will take place at London’s Hyde Park between July 13th-15th, with Bruce Springsteen immediately following Soundgarden on July 14th and Paul Simon closing this year’s festivities on July 15th.

As previously reported on Live4ever, Paul Simon is attending Hard Rock Calling as part of the 25th anniversary of the first ever UK tour of his seminal 1986 record ‘Graceland‘. He will be joined by the South African male choir Ladysmith Black Mambazo for the show, who were a prominent part of the original ‘Graceland’ sessions.

When Paul Simon first toured the ‘Graceland’ album in the UK in April 1987 with six gigs at the Royal Albert Hall, he was met with protests from prominent Eighties musical figures including Billy Bragg and Jerry Dammers, who believed Simon had broken the ANC’s boycott of South Africa during the Apartheid era by recording in the country.
