Handwritten notes, lyrics from Joy Division’s Ian Curtis published next year

iancurtissqPersonal notes and handwritten lyrics from the pen of Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis will be published in a new book next year.

Author Jon Savage has collected a portion of Curtis’ writing for the publication, which is to include copies of pages from an authentic notebook along side lyrics to some of Joy Division’s best loved songs.

So This Is Permanence: Lyrics And Notebooks is to be published by Faber early in 2014 and includes a foreword courtesy of Curtis’ widow Deborah, who also featured some of the aforementioned lyrics in her 1995 autobiography Touching From A Distance.

Battling epilepsy, depression and family problems, Ian Curtis committed suicide in the early hours of May 18th 1980, just a short time before his band was due to embark on their first tour of the United States.

Surviving members Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook and Stephen Morris were joined by Gillian Gilbert when they reemerged from the tragedy under the new banner of New Order.
