The death of Gerry Marsden was confirmed yesterday.
Paul McCartney has been remembering how he and Gerry Marsden regularly crossed paths in Liverpool in the early sixties as their respective bands battled it out for local bragging rights.
The Gerry And The Pacemakers singer has passed away at the age of 78, after suffering an infection in his heart according to broadcaster Pete Price, and McCartney has left one of his now all-too-regular tributes on social media.
“Gerry was a mate from our early days in Liverpool,” the Beatle said. “He and his group were our biggest rivals on the local scene. His unforgettable performances of You’ll Never Walk Alone and Ferry Across The Mersey remain in many people’s hearts as reminders of a joyful time in British music.”
“My sympathies go to his wife Pauline and family. See ya, Gerry. I’ll always remember you with a smile.”
