Father John Misty has contributed the double A-side To S. / To R. to Sub Pop Singles Club Vol.5.

Recorded at Fivestar Studios and Funky Monkey Soundhaus NoHo in Los Angeles with producers Dave Cerminara and The Haxan Cloak, the single follows the release of Josh Tillman’s live album Off-Key In Hamburg way back in the darkest days of March via Bandcamp, which supported the MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund, and is his first bit of new material since 2018’s God’s Favorite Customer – a Live4ever album of 2018:

“A record that could just as easily have been entitled ‘Who’s Behind Door Number One This Time’, Josh Tillman veers from heartbreak to diagnosis and back amongst the sort of rubble you sense he’ll always claim was like that when he found it. Should he ever find his muse in happy-ever-after mode you suspect the product will be one of the greatest albums ever written. For now though, he remains a talent under someone else’s lock and key, perhaps the big fella of the title, or anyone else willing to be the jailer stood on the other side of his confessional wall.”
