Ethel Cain live at Manchester Apollo (Gary Mather for Live4ever)
Ethel Cain will play the Tent Stage on July 3rd.
Ethel Cain, The xx and Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds have been added to the line-up for next year’s Open’er Festival in Gdynia, Poland.
The xx and Nick Cave join The Cure as headliners at the event between July 1st-4th, while for Ethel Cain it’s another live date following the release of Willoughby Tucker, I’ll Always Love You back in the summer.
“The opening track Janie provides perspective from Ethel’s best friend; Janie realises that Ethel has a new connection with Willoughby that she can’t provide and recounts the heartbreak of losing a friend: ‘I know she’s your girl now, but she was my girl first.’,” Live4ever’s review reads.
It’s an unexpected place to start the album, however it helps to introduce the concept of Willoughby as a character. It’s followed with the first of three instrumentals, Willoughby’s Theme, a slow piano-led track which wouldn’t feel out of place on the Twin Peaks soundtrack.
