Scotty Moore, who as a session musician at Sun studios was paired with a young Elvis Presley and lent a distinctive guitar sound to the early singles which brought rock and roll to the masses, has died at the age of 84.
Moore’s biographer James L Dickerson Moore confirmed the death, and gave this tribute: “As a musician, I consider him one of the co-founders of rock’n’roll because of the guitar licks that he invented.”
Moore was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in 2000 and had also worked with a series of stars including Carl Perkins, Keith Richards, Jeff Beck and Ronnie Wood.
Priscilla Presley has left a glowing tribute, saying in a statement: “Elvis loved Scotty dearly and treasured those amazing years together, both in the studio and on the road.”
