Elton John has announced his intention to retire from music after the conclusion of an epic world tour which will begin later this year and not come to an end until 2021.

“My priorities have changed in my life,” John explained at a press conference in New York City yesterday. “My priorities now are my children, my husband, my family. I thought the time is right to say thank you to my fans and say goodbye.”

The Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour will launch in North America this coming September, opening at the PPL Center in Allentown, PA. Europe is then on the agenda for April 2019, followed by a final visit to Asia later that year and Australia in December 2019. By March 2020 he’ll be saying his goodbyes to South America before a final tour back in the UK.

It will all end in North America in 2021. “I’m not going to say I’m retiring and then do a world tour,” he concluded. “I’m not Cher.”
