Download festival to pay tribute to Marshall Amps founder Jim Marshall

downloadThis year’s Download festival will pay its own tribute to the Marshall Amps founder Jim Marshall, who passed away last week at the age of 88.

On April 5th, news of Jim Marshall’s death was broken on Jimmarshall.co.uk, with a statement that read: “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved founder and leader for the past 50 years, Jim Marshall. While mourning the Guv’nor though, we also salute a legendary man who led a full and truly remarkable life.”

And now, as organiser of one of rock’s flagship events – a genre whose bands’ stages have long been adorned by the iconic amp – Download’s Andy Copping has revealed the event’s Main Stage will be re-named in honour of Marshall this June.

“The main stage at Download this year is going to be named The Jim Marshall Stage as a tribute to the great wall of speakers & amps man,” Copping tweeted.

Download will be headlined between June 8th-10th by The Prodigy, Metallica and Black Sabbath.
