Deer Tick cover Pogues classic for Bloodshot Records’ 21st birthday

The Pogues

Now we at Live4ever are always quick to doff our collective hat to anyone who shows a bit of love for The Pogues, so we’re pleased to learn that Deer Tick have done a good job with the band’s track ‘If I Should Fall From Grace With God‘.

Have a listen here.

The cover is one Deer Tick have previously taken to live, but has now been put down on record thanks to Bloodshot Records’ 21st birthday; six bands in total have been invited to offer their vision of various drinking songs, released as 7″ singles and a dedicated box-set on December 4th.

‘If I Should Fall From Grace With God’ is both the title-track and opener to The Pogues’ third studio album, originally released in 1988. Arguably capturing Shane MacGowan and the band at their creative peak, it continues a brash hybrid of seventies punk and traditional Irish folk, but with a more classic British songwriting sound moulded together into one glorious whole by veteran producer Steve Lillywhite.

Of course, it’s an album of particular note this time of year thanks to its classic festive-themed single ‘Fairytale Of New York‘, which had peaked at #2 in the UK the previous Christmas.
