David Bowie’s Blackstar was UK’s biggest selling vinyl album of 2016

The stats from 2016 are starting to come in – and it’s no surprise to learn David Bowie‘s Blackstar album was the UK’s biggest seller on the vinyl format.

Its release and the icon’s death very soon after made Blackstar one of the most significant albums of last year, its commercial performance reflecting this and now confirmed by the BPI who have revealed the ten most popular vinyls of 2016.




Amy Winehouse‘s Back To Black was in second place, the only other brand new release of 2016 aside from Blackstar which made the Top 10 being Radiohead‘s A Moon Shaped Pool.

Overall, vinyl sales rose significantly again to a 25-year high; the total of 3.2m represents a 53% year-on-year increase.
