416PVPHZ8KL. SL500 AA300Texas band Cotton Mather‘s legendary alternative album ‘Kontiki‘ has received its re-release today (February 14th).

Originally issued in 1997, the group’s second album proper gained a cult following in the UK off the back of rave reviews and ringing endorsements from various rock stars including OasisNoel and Liam Gallagher.

“I thought if that isn’t the best record I’ve heard in 10 years, then I don’t know what is,” Noel Gallagher has told MOJO. “It’s one of my favorites of all time,” while brother Liam has also declared in the past that he ‘plays it all day at home’.

At the time of its release, Uncut Magazine gave the album five stars, branding it ‘music to smile yourself to death to’, and Mojo remarked the songs are ‘brought to life with daring vitality’. In addition, The Guardian also handed ‘Kontiki’ a five-star review, calling the LP ‘a bewildering, dizzy thrill’.

The re-issue has been made available through frontman Robert Harrison‘s Star Apple Kingdom label. Harrison has also funded the project via a Kickstarter campaign made possible by fans of the underground classic. A two-CD deluxe edition will feature the original album, as well as four-track demos, acoustic versions and songs that didn’t make the final cut back in 1997.
