Slash officially received his star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame yesterday (July 11th), with movie star Charlie Sheen using the occasion to deliver a little dig at the legendary guitarist’s former Guns N Roses bandmate Axl Rose.
The ceremony took place in front of the Hard Rock Cafe in Los Angeles, with Sheen telling the assembled audience that: “It’s quite fitting I think that Slash is getting a star on the very street that Axl Rose will one day be sleeping on.”
For his part, Slash used his speech to simply thank Hollywood for the honour, reflecting that he has been ‘a part of the fabric’ for a long time.
“I’ve been a part of the Hollywood fabric for a long time and to actually be appreciated by the city of Hollywood is a huge, huge honor,” he said. “And so I want to thank everybody for this; it’s unbelievable.”
Music producer Robert Evans and radio host Jim Ladd were also present for the ceremony.
You know, I just saw Axl and the new Guns, in Vegas on New Years Eve (2011) and they played for 3 hours…they poured their hearts into the concert. Axl’s voice is healthy, and the new band makes the old band look like neophytes. The new Guns have been playing 3 hour sets every show; they have received great reviews, and were considered one of the number one concerts for 2011. I saw Slash, with Revolver, at the old Konocti Resort in Clearlake, California. He was incredible. Understand that Slash caused a lot of headaches for Axl because of his heroin addiction. Slash has worked with many other people, and shows up everywhere; it is Slash’s redemption…his amends; good for him and I mean that with respect. Charlie Sheen and Slash were drug buddies. Sheen’s credibility is questionable….loved him in 2.5 Men, though.
