Blur have fifteen new songs recorded but are no closer to releasing an album, so says the band’s frontman Damon Albarn.
Speaking at yesterday’s (February 26th) NME Awards, where he was presented with the Award For Innovation, Albarn was again quizzed on the future of Blur after the band played shows in the UK during 2012 and took that on the road much further afield last year.
That increase in live activity doesn’t seem to have suitably whetted their collective appetites for an LP though; during the chat, Albarn said the bandmates are ‘all doing other stuff at the moment’, and on the subject of new songs added: “Just because you record 15 ideas doesn’t mean that you’ve got an album.”
The original Blur line-up hasn’t released a studio record since 1999, while Graham Coxon‘s departure not long thereafter was followed by the 2003 effort ‘Think Tank‘.
Meanwhile, Damon Albarn will release his debut solo album ‘Everyday Robots‘ in April.
