Ash have posted a special version of their debut single ‘Jack Names The Planets‘ on Soundcloud (below) to mark its 20th anniversary after a free download was made available yesterday (March 5th).

In their embryonic days, Ash originally released the track as part of their second demo tape and also included it on their compilation ‘Pipe Smokin’ Brick‘. Eventually, Stephen Taverner gave the song a home and released it in 1994 on what was then the brand new La La Land label.

The track emerged in a more polished from on Ash’s first mini-album ‘Trailer‘, while the original would re-appear as a hidden track on their debut full length ‘1977‘. This up-to-date version was laid down in 2011 as part of that year’s ‘Best Of Ash / Teenage Wildlife‘ DVD.

Ash have spent much of the past few years issuing their ‘A-Z‘ singles series after apparently turning their backs on the traditional LP format. According to reports, they are currently in New York working on more new material.
