Coldplay were the final act on the Pyramid Stage at the 2016 Glastonbury Festival yesterday evening, bringing to an end what has been described by organiser Michael Eavis ‘as the muddiest ever’ week at Worthy Farm.
Eavis joined Coldplay at one point during the headline performance, as did Bee Gee Barry Gibb while Chris Martin also led the band through a cover of Viola Beach‘s ‘Boys That Sing‘ in memory of the four group members and their manager who died in a car accident earlier this year.
A wet Wednesday is never a good start for Glastonbury, and that day’s travel problems and bad weather indeed heralded the worst year for mud according to Eavis, who’s told The Guardian:
“Every single bit of woodchip in the south of England, all of it is here over 1,000 acres. I’ve never seen mud like it in the whole life. This is worse than 1997. In all 46 years, it hasn’t been as bad as this.”
