The family of AC/DC‘s Malcolm Young have for the first time publicly discussed the nature of the illness which has forced him to leave the band he formed with his younger brother Angus back in 1973.
In a short statement released to People, Young’s loved ones said: “Malcolm is suffering from dementia and the family thanks you for respecting their privacy.”
AC/DC are pressing ahead with a new album and tour after first reports of their guitarist’s illness earlier this year led to speculation that they would end for good.
Instead, frontman Brian Johnson said they were pressing ahead with recording new material. “We hope to bring you more shows in the near future but, of course, there is the slight distraction of my day job with AC/DC – and it looks very likely that we will be on the road again before the end of the year. So stand by for more music – and more Cars That Rock,” he said when addressing fans at brianjohnsonracing.com.
In the end, last month ‘Rock Or Bust‘ was confirmed for release on December 1st.
