Jack White and The Flaming Lips were among the performers at the 26th annual Bridge School Benefit in California over the weekend, while Eddie Vedder made a short, impromptu appearance after yet another late show from Guns N Roses.
Foster The People, Steve Martin and Ray LaMontagne were some of the other acts to appear at Neil Young‘s event, with the veteran songwriter also performing as the opening act.
Guns N Roses were due up at the all-acoustic benefit at 4pm, but after being apparently delayed, Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder stepped in for a quick set consisting of ‘Elderly Woman‘ and ‘Last Kiss‘. “This is the last place I thought I’d be when I woke up today – opening for Guns N’ Roses,” he told the crowd.
Jack White was also in town with his all-female band to air a mix of tracks from throughout his career, while Axl Rose and co. were joined onstage by students from the Bridge School for the tracks ‘Welcome To The Jungle‘, ‘Paradise City‘ and ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine‘.
As ever, proceeds from the weekend will go towards the Bridge School which, since being founded in 1986 by Neil Young and his wife, has offered specialist care to children described as having ‘severe physical impairments and complex communication needs’.
