Blur have opened up the possibility of new material being released in the near future after leaving a short, cryptic message on their Twitter account today (June 19th).
The Tweet gives a time and date of 7.15pm on July 2nd for fans to look out for, and also includes the hash-tag #thepuritan, suggesting the track aired live for the first time by Damon Albarn last week during his performance at the Poetry Olympics in London may be about to be unveiled.
The message also came complete with an image (left) which reads: ‘The flash of a blade is one less getting paid’.
Many conflicting reports regarding Blur’s plans for a new album have emerged over recent months, with frontman Damon Albarn appearing to suggest he had no desire to continue with the band after their Hyde Park concert this summer, before questioning the validity of the comments attributed to him not long after.
Producer William Orbit also created more confusion last month, telling NME recording sessions had been abruptly halted by Albarn, claims again seemingly contradicted by bass player Alex James, who responded on Twitter by writing that he ‘loves being in the studio with Blur’.
It now appears that finally, on July 2nd, things are going become clearer.
