Blur guitarist Graham Coxon has said the band are hoping to put on a show which will surpass even their 2009 headline appearance at Glastonbury when they perform at London’s Hyde Park later this year.
The band, who appeared onstage together for the first since those series of reunion shows at the Brit Awards last month, will headline a special one-off Hyde Park gig to mark the end of the London Olympics, topping an impressive bill which also includes New Order and The Specials. Shortly before that gig, the band are also due to play festivals in Denmark and Sweden.
And, despite their Glastonbury performance becoming arguably the most celebrated gig of their career, Coxon has said he and his fellow Blur bandmates are beginning rehearsals with every intention of going ‘one better’ this time around.
“We’re going to start rehearsing soon and we’ve been back playing together for a bit,” he told NME. “We’re going to concentrate on making it a really nice experience in the summer. We’re going to try and get it up a notch from 2009, which seems almost impossible to me in a way because the Glastonbury appearance was so phenomenally amazing. We’re going to try and go one better.”
As well as his reunion with Blur, Coxon will release his latest solo album – ‘A+E‘- in April.
