The Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas has revealed the band have finally finished work on their new album, after responding to a question on Twitter.
Initial reports had suggested the New Yorkers had planned to release their fourth studio album before the end of this year, but a series of delays during recording sessions had continually pushed the date back.
However, Casablancas has now confirmed work on the new record is complete, writing on Twitter: “Still not going to be out for a few months-mixing, etc, but JUST finally finished it yesterday actually!?”
Despite the struggles in the studio, The Strokes did return to Europe for a series of outdoor shows last summer, including headline spots at the Isle Of Wight festival, Germany’s Hurricane event, and Scotland’s Rockness festival.
According to reports, U2 and Beck cohort Joe Chicarelli is producing the new record, and has said on his work with the band: “I came into that with a lot of fresh ideas. I am a big fan and wanted to help out and they were at a point where they wanted to do some experimenting and try different things. The amazing thing about that band is that they are all on this quest, and they never stop wanting to try out new things.”
The album, their first since 2006’s ‘First Impressions Of Earth‘, is due for release in early 2011.
