Swedish indie band Peter, Bjorn and John have revealed their new album has developed a ‘pop rock’ theme, despite the trio originally striving for a harsher, punk sound during recording sessions.
After releasing their debut in 2002, Peter, Bjorn and John found success upon the release of their third record ‘Writer’s Block‘, which spawned the 2006 hit single ‘Young Folks‘. Now, the band have been outlining their plans for their sixth album, the follow up to last year’s ‘Living Thing‘.
“We originally planned to make a punk rock album,” drummer John Eriksson told Spin. “But listening to it now it’s definitely a pop rock album. But it sounds more punk rock when we play the songs live! We’ve sort of gone back to the beginning. It’s like Back To The Future!”
The album has been produced by Cardigans cohort Per Sunding, and Eriksson happily explained their producer’s grand plan for fruitful sessions – plenty of drink. “We were more drunk this time,” he said. “We have to blame the producer for that. He made us drink more. A lot of the final cuts were the drunken versions.”
The new LP is currently untitled, and after admitting the band are struggling with a name, Eriksson told Spin they are ‘working on it’.
