Ahead of their forthcoming New York shows in October during which they will perform each of their five studio albums in their entirety, Kentucky rockers My Morning Jacket have been talking to Spin.com about their hopes for the gigs, and the possibility of new tracks making an appearance.
During the interview, guitarist Carl Broemel discussed his nerves ahead of the dates which will begin at New York’s Terminal 5 venue on October 18th when the band will perform their 1999 debut ‘The Tennessee Fire‘. “I’m really looking forward to it, even thought it is kind of a daunting project,” he said.
“We have a huge list of songs we need to work on. The actual albums themselves will be the easy part. Super old EP stuff or covers we haven’t played in years – that’s where the real work is involved. We’re going to get together for a few days and make our master plan for those nights.”
Broemel also outlined the possibility of their new material finding it’s way into their setlist. “It’s going to be cool to not think about the setlist so much,” he explained. “Usually, we try to make each show specific to the city we’re playing, which is more challenging, since there are so many songs we love to play.
We’ve been playing two new songs that are probably going to be on the record. It’s a good thing in a way to have a song out there beforehand because it’s good to play songs live, and we basically record all the songs live now.”
Following the first date, My Morning Jacket will play 2001’s ‘At Dawn‘ on October 19th, ‘It Still Moves‘ on the 21st, ‘Z‘ on the 22nd, and finally 2008’s ‘Evil Urges‘ on October 23rd.
