Black Country, New Road are part of the alternate plans as SXSW avoids Texas for a second year.

More artists have been added to the South by Southwest line-up for 2021 as the Austin behemoth goes remote for, hopefully, just this year.

Joining other already confirmed artists whom we’re big fans of here – such as Katy J Pearson, Squid, TV Priest and Sinead O’Brien – are more of our favourites like Black Country, New Road, Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard and Chubby & The Gang.

They add to a still-huge bill which this time passholders will be able to enjoy from venues in the artists’ home countries, streamed online, on mobile and through various South By connected app portals including a virtual reality option via the SXSW online XR.

Black Country, New Road are confirmed shortly after the release of their debut record ‘For the first time’, a Live4ever Album Of The Week earlier this month.

“What’s inescapable with more determined listening is the presence of a highly filmic residue, one that in the absence of more orthodox structure makes for easier connection,” the review reads.

“Closer opus is a drama of despair that seeks to break the bonds of restraint, like the final scene from an unmade godfather movie where it rains guilt and bullets at some infamous wedding.”

“Track X, they claim, is by contrast a glimpse at the different scope of their forthcoming material, an Arthur Russell inspired pastoral overlap that allows itself willingly to be embraced.”
