Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode and T. Rex were among the new inductees into the Rock And Roll Of Fame during a remote ceremony yesterday.

“Even now music’s always been the thing that keeps me going and, as an artist, I think the most significant accomplishment or feeling is realising something you’ve created from a fragile and intimate place has reached out, resonated and affected someone else, possibly changing how they see the world,” Trent Reznor said upon NIN’s honour. “So as to whatever being in a hall of fame means, thank you for the recognition.”

Hollywood star Charlize Theron gave the speech to welcome Depeche Mode into the list of greats, describing Dave Gahan as ‘the soundtrack of her adolescence’. “With a song for every occasion of my life,” she continued. “My first date, my first time leaving South Africa and, of course, the first time I got my heart broken.”

It was Ringo Starr who paid tribute to Marc Bolan and his impact with T.Rex, praising his 12-album career which was cut short tragically early in 1977 as being ‘as far out and ahead of their time as he was’.
