Little Simz will be honoured with the Pioneer Award when this year’s AIM ceremony takes place, virtually, on August 12th.
“Delighted to receive the Pioneer Award this year and excited to perform,” she responds. “Big thank you and love to AIM Awards!”
It’s another noteworthy achievement to quickly follow the Best Album nomination at the 2020 Ivor Novello Awards for Grey Area, an album which was nonchalantly responded to at the height of lockdown with the Drop 6 EP, complete with one of the year’s best tracks, ‘might bang, might not’. “I don’t mind being alone,” she said on social media at the time of its release.
“I quite enjoy my own company actually. However choosing to be alone is different from being forced to be alone and that’s where the difficulty comes in. You’re stuck with yourself, 24 hours of the day, 7 days of the week. There are only so many naps I can take in a day.”
