The death of musician Aaron Tokona was announced during the weekend.

A member of popular New Zealand rock outfits such as Weta and Fly My Pretties, Tokona was best known to Live4ever for his time with Cairo Knife Fight, a band we were delighted to host on two separate occasions at the South By Southwest Festival. The first of those came in 2012, when as late additions they took the party by storm:

“There’s been some pretty triumphant late additions over the years,” we wrote. “Pulp at Glastonbury 1995. Denmark at the 1992 European Football Championships. What about the motorcycle chase in The Great Escape? Well, at Live4ever’s party at the South By Southwest festival earlier this month, we experienced our own.”

“Riding in on a bandana-encrusted stallion with a last minute invitation in hand, New Zealand’s Cairo Knife Fight proceeded to put on a show of true rock n roll glory, leaving those in attendance agreed in a verdict unanimously built around the words ‘show’ and ‘stealers’.”
