Orlando Weeks has announced the long-awaited release date of his debut solo album.

A Quickening will be out on June 12th, following the end of The Maccabees in 2017 and his later multimedia project Gritterman. As detailed with the recent Safe In Sound single, A Quickening is Weeks’ perspective on being a father-to-be as he and his partner awaited the arrival of their first child. “I was witness to this momentous event in our lives and didn’t want that to go unmarked in the work that I do,” he said in February.

“I found that writing was a way to anchor moments and cement feelings that we were sharing. Throughout that dazzling year, with its steady march towards our son’s arrival, I felt grateful to the discipline of working on music for the semblance of structure that it gave me. Musically I wanted to make something that stretched me, something with beauty and intensity.”

He’s shared a second track from the album upon its announcement today, entitled Blood Sugar:

A Quickening tracklist:

Milk Breath
Blood Sugar
Safe In Sound
St. Thomas
Takes A Village
Moon’s Opera
All The Things
Blame Or Love Or Nothing
None Too Tough
Summer Clothes
Dream
