He worked with them all, as they say. With The Beach Boys on Pet Sounds, with The Ronettes on Be My Baby, with Simon & Garfunkel on Mrs. Robinson, with Nancy Sinatra on These Boots Are Made for Walkin, with The Byrds’ on Mr Tambourine Man to name just a few.

Wrecking Crew drummer Hal Blaine lent his talents to over 35,000 recordings during his career, was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2000 and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award last year.

At the age of 90, his death has been confirmed.

The Hall Of Fame’s inductee biography contends he ‘may well be the most prolific drummer in rock and roll history’. “He has certainly played on more hit records than any drummer in the rock era, including forty Number One singles and one hundred fifty that made the Top Ten,” it continues. “Eight of the records he played on won Grammys for Record of the Year.”
