The ‘desire to shake it up’ doesn’t appear to have lasted for much more than one album if the new single from Mumford & Sons is anything to go by.

Guiding Light is the first preview of the band’s next album Delta, which has been set for release on November 16th and produced by Paul Epworth.

The new approach of Wilder Mind was detailed by Marcus Mumford as emerging from soundchecks when new songs were aired without ‘the banjo, or a kick-drum, we knew it wasn’t going to involve acoustic instruments’:

“We didn’t say, ‘No acoustic instruments’, but I think all of us had this desire to shake it up. The songwriting hasn’t changed drastically; it was led more by a desire to not do the same thing again. Plus, we fell back in love with drums! It’s as simple as that.”

However, after the relative under-performance of Wilder Mind when compared to predecessors Sigh No More and Babel, Guiding Light seems to represent a quick jump back to the seven-figure-sale sound of those first two records.
