Chris Martin has defended Noel Gallagher‘s absence from last weekend’s One Love benefit concert, writing on Twitter that ‘everyone knew in advance you couldn’t be there’.

Many had hoped for a first onstage performance from brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher at the concert arranged to raise proceeds for those affected by last month’s attack at the Manchester Arena, yet despite Liam hotfooting it from Germany to make a late, unannounced appearance, Noel Gallagher remained on a family holiday in Italy –  much to the chagrin of his younger brother who soured the mood somewhat by voicing his displeasure in a series of messages on Twitter.

Chris Martin has responded to this latest Oasis argument by highlighting Noel Gallagher’s own support for the event, praising him for ‘blessing and encouragement’ to perform Don’t Look Back In Anger with organiser Ariana Grande and a stunning version of Live Forever with Liam.

“Thank you Noel Gallagher for giving your blessing and encouragement to play Don’t Look Back In Anger and Live Forever on Sunday,” Martin began.

“Everyone knew in advance you couldn’t be there physically, so thank you for being there in spirit and for lending us those incredible songs.”

Martin left it there for a while before returning to leave a shorter tribute to Liam, adding: “Thank you Liam Gallagher, that was awesome.”
