After returning with the new single Boyfriend earlier this month, Marika Hackman has now set her second album I’m Not Your Man for release on June 2nd.
It’s described as a rockier affair than the We Slept At Last debut as Hackman perused a ‘teenage fantasy of fronting a raucous band’. “I wanted to let rip and lose control,” she says.
“That’s the kind of music I’ve always wanted to make. When I was younger I wasn’t looking at Joni Mitchell. I was looking at Nirvana thinking, ‘I wanna be like that!’”
It was her friends The Big Moon who helped this dream to be realised, acting as backing band on various tracks. “They really captured the soul of what it all meant to me and brought a lot of fun and creativity,” Hackman remembers.
