John Hassall has followed the example of his Libertines colleague Pete Doherty by announcing a new album away from the band.

Hassall has formed The April Rainers for the release of debut album ‘Wheels To Idyll‘ on November 25th – first single ‘Given Time‘ is available to PledgeMusic pre-orders.

“Much of the album is about travelling to the country to see my Granny as a child,” Hassall says. “It might not be a very rock’n’roll subject matter, but I reckon you can still make good pop songs out of it.”

“‘Intercity 125´ is about the train journey there, ‘Sun in the Afternoon’ is about her and her house, and ‘The Last Scene of Summer’ at the end of the album is about the melancholy train journey back home to London.”

The LP was laid down with Kalle Guatafsson, once of The Soundtrack Of Our Lives, at his ‘analogue haven’ Svenske Grammofon Studion in Gothenburg, Sweden.
