Glastonbury Festival’s move to Longleat is apparently off

The Telegraph has quoted Michael Eavis as saying he ‘fears’ for Glastonbury‘s future after a proposed move to Longleat apparently broke down.

The exact reasons for Eavis seeking a move to the estate in Wiltshire have been contradictory at best; ranging from a one-off event during the next Glastonbury ‘fallow’ year in 2018 to it becoming the permanent new home for the famous old festival due to concerns with its current Worthy Farm site.

Whatever the reasons, it appears conflicts within the family of the Longleat owners have ended the possibility of any festival being hosted there.

“Longleat probably won’t happen anymore,” Eavis said. “Lord Bath is really keen. I went to him because I knew him when he was a boy. But he and his son aren’t agreeing, and they don’t speak very much, so it’s hard to make decisions. I haven’t been able to sit down with all of them at the same time.”

“They let me down gently about their decision. I went round to their house and we had a very long discussion.”

“They said to clean up all that mud, they’d have to restrict the whole of the operations at Longleat for about three months and it’s too expensive.”
