Morrissey has said the notion of a reunion for The Smiths ‘doesn’t make sense anymore’.

Since Johnny Marr walked away at the height of their powers in 1987, The Smiths has been a tale of occasional collaboration, occasional court cases and continued alienation between their two principal members but, speaking to news.com.au, Morrissey has said the remoteness of a possible return overrides any past tensions which might have prevented reformation in the past.

“It’s no longer a question of time or wounds, but simply that the issue is now so remote that the question doesn’t make sense any more,” he said. He added that only one track remains hidden in the Smiths archive – a cover of Elvis Presley‘s ‘A Fool Such As I‘ which he doesn’t even own.

Morrissey plays the Manchester Arena on August 20th and from there embarks on world tour dates through to November.
