Richard Ashcroft has just posted ‘Hold On‘ as the second precursor to his new solo album ‘These People‘.

The former Verve frontman is back with his first solo album proper since 2006’s ‘Keys To The World‘, and his first LP of any kind since the ‘United Nations Of Sound‘ project of 2010. It was a return initially rumoured back in January when pictures of rehearsals with a new backing band began circulating on social media.

‘These People’ was recorded in London with co-producer Chris Potter, while Wil Malone – who worked on the string arrangements for The Verve’s ‘A Northern Soul‘ and ‘Urban Hymns‘ albums as well as Ashcroft’s 2000 debut solo LP ‘Alone With Everybody‘ – was invited in on the sessions too. It’s out on May 20th through his own Righteous Phonographic Association label via Cooking Vinyl.

Ashcroft has sold-out UK gigs coming up next month on May 14th at the Albert Hall in Manchester and on the 16th at the Roundhouse in London.
