The measured, drip-feed unveiling of the Glastonbury festival line-up for 2016 has continued today (March 21st).
James have been confirmed as the act to take the opening spot this June, pencilled in as they now are for the Other Stage on Friday, June 24th at 11am.
“We’re going to cut the ribbon and smash the champagne on the ship,” frontman Tim Booth has told the BBC.
The opening role on Glastonbury’s second stage is another becoming an increasingly sought after one during recent years, much like the Sunday tea-time slot which is being taken next by Jeff Lynne’s ELO.
We know too the identities of all three Pyramid Stage headliners after Adele was confirmed last weekend to be joining Muse and Coldplay.
Asked whether the singer is a suitable leading artist, James’ bassist Jim Glennie said: “I don’t know how you judge the suitability. They always want to take a risk, which is admirable, like stick Metallica on and see what happens.”
